Lake Malaren Shanghai Masters (LMSM) is an International men's professional golf tournament organized by the CCTV-IMG. The tournament receives additional support from the General Administration of Sports of China, the government of Shanghai, the China Golf Association, Shanghai Bureau of Sports, the government of Baoshan District, the SRE Group and the China New Town Development Co. Ltd.
LMSM is a 72-hole stroke play competition with no elimination. The top 30 players in the world ranking list will be invited to compete for this historic title and monumental cash prize; these players include the champions of the annual four grand slams, winners of the PGA, European Tour, Japan Tour, Asian Tour, PGA of Australia, Sunshine Tour of South Africa, and the champion of both Asia and China Tour (or the first place by credits earned). 8 Chinese players and 3 wild card players will also have the opportunity to participate. Whilst additionally the world's top 30 players being invited according to their ranking.
The total prize fund for the first LMSM is $5,000,000; a sum that will be shared among all participating players. The champion will be rewarded $2,000,000, with the runner-up receiving $750,000. Just for competing each player is assured a prize, with last place being awarded $25,000. This tournament will set brand new milestones in China's professional golf tournament history in terms of scale and prize funds.
Being held in Shanghai, China's major metropolis, LMSM will definitely further promote the sport to the entire country.
